"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety
deserve neither liberty or safety."
When I watch the news today, frankly it's depressing. People are being killed for no reason other than they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. It is horrible. What makes it worse is that in the aftermath it becomes political and people are arguing over it. The tragedy is being used to tear the country apart.
It doesn't matter if you are a republican or a democrat, we should all be able to agree that the man who perpetrated the shooting in Orlando was evil, anybody who could commit such a horrible act is evil. It is not a political. There are no arguments against it there is no defending it the man was evil. Yet in this day and age tragedy like the Orlando shooting becomes a means to assert political agenda on both sides of the aisle.
Right away you heard the anti-gun spiel. Why do people need guns? We need more background checks, more regulation. Congress tried to push through regulations that had a very slim chance to pass, and guess what, none of them did. Now where are we? Exactly the same place that we started. Congress is great at pretending to take action, while in fact doing noting.
As a country we need to stop creating scapegoats. It was not the gun that decided to reek havoc on the night club. The gun was a tool that an evil man used to hurt and kill many innocent people. Evil acts like what happened in Orlando insight fear and can cause rash, illogical decisions. The answer is not to create more regulations that will only inhibit law abiding Americans from exercising their rights. Yes, in Orlando a gun was used in the name of terrorism, but that is by no means the only way for terrorists to cause harm and insight fear. Just look at recent history, in the Boston bombing they used pressure cookers and had horribly devastating results. Unless it is stopped at the source, evil will find a way.
Don't let fear trick you into giving away your liberties. Don't let fear trick you into losing what makes our country great. We need to look beyond and find a way to stop the evil at its roots. I pray for those whose friends or family were there at the night club. I hope we can see past our differences and realize that we are Americans and that the very core of our nation is being attacked. Everything that we hope and strive for, our love of freedom, diversity, our right to pursue what makes us happy, everything that our nation was built on is being attacked. We must not let fear blind us, we must not let the evil in the world cloud our judgment.
